…because someone needs to.
So I run dual Displays on my Windows XP System and since upgrading to iTunes 7.2 (7.2.0.34 is my current version) every time I would switch users or even go into sleep mode with iTunes open, I get a nice little “Unsupported Display” error message and Windows would hang up. This forces me to press my favorite 3 keys Ctrl, Alt and Esc (I get me to where I’m going faster than Ctrl, Alt, Del, plus thats far too cliche by now…but I digress) to end the iTunes task and get running again. Now I should note my secondary monitor is on the left and has a lower resolution and reinstalling in all shapes, forms, etc, did nothing but waste my time.
The iTunes support page was little help and the other solutions I saw were to simply keep iTunes on the monitor with the lower resolution…however, that’s not a great solution in my opinion. The better solution I discovered is to adjust a Quicktime setting.
The only downside that I have found is that you can no longer jump into full screen…However, since I am running dual monitors it does not really bother me that much. Hope this helps & please let me know if anyone finds another solution.
Cheers,
aa!2on

I thought upgrades were supposed to be difficult? Being a Windows and Linux user for quite sometime I was used to a more drawn out process that usually leaves some elements in need of tweaking (that’s the nice way to put it, I should say recovering at times from certain doom). I used to preach More >

Nintendo Wiis’ are addicting. I haven’t been a huge gamer since college but I am really wanting a Wii. However, I have been noticing more and more people finding uses for the WWII remote. Now I realize I could talk for years on all the homebrews for the Wii, but I like the most simple More >

We got a new computer in a few days ago and it had a trial version of Office 2007 on it. Since it was trail version and we have the licenses for Outlook 2003, I had no desire to go the 2007 route just yet. So after uninstalling 2007 and installing Office 2003 I get More >

I love command line tools! Don’t ask why, maybe I enjoy being “old school.” Either way. We use Terminal Services and Citrix here. Sometimes users login from a computer and sometime from a Winterm or dumb terminal. I use Microsoft Terminal Services Manager to help users remotely and often it’s really nice to know the More >

Interesting. I have been having a similar problem with my laptop (which I run with a dual monitor setup whenever I’m at home).
I get an Unsupported Display message too, but it is not a standard Windows error message. It appears as the title of a modal dialog box, whose contents are completely blank (ie white). Furthermore, the taskbar button for this small window has a Firefox icon, so it seems to be connected to Firefox (although I do have iTunes running most of the time). The only way out seems to be to force a shutdown of Firefox.
I cannot recall if I have had to shutdown iTunes as well (I think I tend to do so anyway whenever I have a problem).

Very interesting. When I see it it’s always the iTunes box….same scenario though..black error box..never comes up. It almost sounds like a different problem… Please do keep me updated here on whether or not it turns out to be iTunes related or if the Quicktime fix helps.

THANK YOU! This was sooooooo annoying and I couldn’t find any solutions. I have a laptop with a dual display at work; second monitor is lower res. Every time I would lock down the laptop (which is every time I get up from my desk) I would get the Unsupported Display problem. No one else at the office gets it (then again, no one else runs dual displays – not that this would be important in troubleshooting, now would it?!?!) and the only answer I could get was ‘it’s something with your machine’ which was NO help. I adjusted my QuickTime per your suggestion. Thanks again

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the tip!!!
I did not want to lose all the directX acceleration so I tried just to uncheck the “Enable Direct Draw on secondary monitors” and it seems to have fixed the problem!!!
Try and let us know!
Enjoy!
