Election Day = Leave Your TV Off For a Day
Nov 4th
Some Statesmen go to Congress and some go to hell.
It is the same thing, after all.-poet/journalist Eugene Field
If you ever wanted a good reason to enjoy the outdoors and stay away from all forms of media (ESPECIALLY TELEVISION) then election day is what you have been waiting for! I am not saying don’t vote. On the contrary, do vote. In fact walk to the polls! Enjoy being outside. Because all that awaits you at home on the television is electoral garbage. I never get so frustrated as watching this stuff. Regardless of who wins, the reporters sit there and guess, interview and ramble on for hours all while having the unrealistic expectation that I am entertained or interested.
I’m very concerned for the direction of the country…for who our leaders will be. But my life will be no better off for watching any of the major networks on election day. I will look tomorrow. See who won and go on with my life. Plus I’m playing volleyball tonight so why would I watch people who think they are important on TV when I can smash a volleyball at a high rate of speed?
Sorry… I know I have lost some of you with this. Just do yourself a favor and after you vote (if you haven’t already) do something awesome and don’t sit around watching election coverage. Let me know if you decided to do anything cool…and if you are still trying to catch up, then I am sure this will make sense.

How Useful Are Political Yard Signs
Oct 29th

Unless you live under a rock, I’m sure you have seen more than a few political campaign signs. From a marketing standpoint, I truly believe these are an immense waste of time and effort. APD (Aaron’s Polling Data) suggest that approximately 0% of people have been persuaded to vote for someone because of these signs. It should also be noted that 83% of people believe them to be annoying.
Seriously, what is on any of these signs that would persuade you to vote for the candidate listed? Can you picture the conversation?
Random Driver paying attention while driving: Hey Elmer! Look at that sign!
Person with weak sales resistance (aka Elmer): Oh wow!…looks like that guy has a name… He’s got my vote for sure now.
Political campaign yard signs do absolutely nothing to influence voters minds. Why are they there? Because you want others to know what you like. It is ironic in a way, that a sign for someone else is used in such a egoistical way. Admit it, you all know that not one single person will vote for Osama or Big Mac because you had a sign in your yard. You simply wanted others to know what you liked. That is pretty much their only use… Candidates could easily spend money and advertise in better ways, I think politicians know that people live to be selfish and letting then do so encourages a person to invest more in the candidate.
Here is an alternative idea for political yard signs and our electoral process… we should still put them out but then watch to see which signs dog’s pee on the least. This person would have to be the most logical choice for office. The odd part it is that might be too close to what happens already except after the election the voters get pissed on.
If you can think of any true uses for campaign yard signage then let me know.

No signage on this page should be taken as a reflection of my political views. I am dedicated to Awesomeness, geekiness, humor and satire. While Politics is satirical, it quit being funny long ago and I would be hard pressed to find a single “Awesome” politician. Marriage in Jeopardy, It's Not the Same Sex Issue
Feb 29th
I have been going through my huge collection of bookmarks and came a cross a story I meant to talk about but must have missed. I have talked before about how marriage is in trouble at the alter of convenience…and most everyone on the planet feels the need to weigh in on the “same sex” marriage issue..but this will catch you by surprise.
Back in November, an Indian man married a dog… From the article:
An Indian man who believed he had been cursed for stoning to death two dogs has atoned for his sin by marrying another dog in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.

I’ll lay out some of the details.
- P. Selvakumar, a 33-year-old farm laborer from the southern state of Tamil Nadu, married the four-year-old stray bitch after it was bathed and processed to his village temple dressed in an orange sari and garlanded with flowers.
- The marriage took place on the advice of the man’s astrologer who said it was the only way to atone for his actions of more than 20 years ago.
- He was reported to have suffered a series of physical ailments after stoning the dogs to death and hanging their bodies from a tree.
- A reception attended by some 200 guests was held for the newlyweds in the groom’s house during which Selvi grew restless and ran away.
- However she was subsequently recaptured and returned to her husband who gave her milk and a bun to eat.
- It is understood that the groom is still free to find a human wife should he be inclined.
- Mr Selvakumar is not the first man to have hit the headlines for having romantic relations with animals.
- Last year a Sudanese man was forced to marry a goat after village elders discovered him having sex with her. The goat died shortly afterwards.
“After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear,” said Mr Selvakumar after the ceremony with his new “bride”, whose name is Selvi.
As far as animal cruelty…I am trying to decide which is worse… being the dogs he killed or the dog he married… ugh… Enjoy, laugh, vomit… whatever. We won’t even talk about the goat issue.

File for a divorce online…sheesh.
Nov 12th
Should there be line drawn for “convenience”? Pay my bills online great. Shop for a present, nice (especially if you want an awesomeness motivational poster…sorry for the shameless plug). But now it appears Broward County in South Florida has made it even more convenient to get a divorce…online. Check this article for specifics.
Now I really don’t want to go on a political rant…mainly because there is way too much wrong, complaining would only get me frustrated and taking a look at pretty much any leader in this country tells me they won’t do anything to fix it… However, how stupid is this? Divorcerate.org shows that :
The divorce rate in America for first marriage, vs second or third marriage
50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce, according to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri.”
Is it just me or does it seem less and less people (especially those supposedly providing leadership) care at all about marriage? I digress from my small rant…. you can to back to being awesome now.
Smoke Free Tennessee
Oct 2nd
As October 1st, all restaurants in Tennessee will be smoke free indoors unless they limit access to people 21+ at all times (includes restaurants with bars, chain and hotel restaurants). See www.smokefreetn.org or www.tennesseeanytime.org/govoffice/smokingban.html for more information.
Let me begin by saying I am not a smoker. Personally, I think smoking is the equivalent of putting your mouth over the exhaust pipe of a poorly tuned ’68 Chevy. So on one hand I think this is great. There is nothing I hate more then when someone lights up right next to me in a restaurant. This is why my wife and I usually avoid restaurants that allow smoking or have the most ill thought out smoking sections known to man.
On the other hand, I hate the fact that the government felt they had to step up and do it. I despise the way government takes control of everything..all the useless organizations, things they have their hands in, the ways they can try to scare people by saying the budget will be cut and health and education will suffer (even though it would have actually just been a smaller increase from last year than they wanted). But I digress. I think it should have been left up to the business owners to decide. Now I think the owners should have thought…Hey, you know smoking kills people and is annoying to our customers..perhaps we should ban it. But they didn’t. I jump off my political rant and just start to enjoy the clean air here.
Cheers.
